I SMELL A HOAX! if these "veteran entrepreneurs" are so good why are they leaving it to the last minute. The way they are going they cant expect to out do X-Box. And to outdo PS2, they have to be mad to try a stratergy like this. Look at PS2 sales when it was releaed. It was huge. More PS2 consoles sold in one day than in a month of x-box sales. This is just some nobody tring to fool the people. I wont accept anything until i get some proof.

  3. mickey Unregistered 7 years ago

hay is this thing for real or is it just something thought of if it is when is it coming out . this system sounds like a realy good idea

  4. Reality Unregistered 7 years ago

This thing will flop. Big time.

  5. Nick Unregistered 7 years ago

I don't know..they're not competing on the same front. Sounds a lot more like the old 'set top box' paradigm. Frankly, if I could have all the benefits of PC online gaming without the exorbitant price, I'd consider it....

  6. anjiro Unregistered 7 years ago

Damn, so much for the hoax, I'm beginning to think these people are serious.... But we'll see, if you observe carefully, they more emphasize on the 'system', okay, so their console will be the 'best', but will it get enough publishers and developers to make many games for it? Cause' if that's not the case, it'll most likely become like the scenario with the Gamecube.

  7. Nick Unregistered 7 years ago

Is it not PC compatible? I don't think finding developers will be the problem...hence the initial 35,000 games boast.

  8. Sam Unregistered 7 years ago

    Still sceptical here.

  9. DDR Unregistered 7 years ago

The Controller looks so big just like the heavy and uncomfortable Xbox controllers

  10. juan Unregistered 7 years ago

    what company makes it.

  11. gordon Unregistered 7 years ago

Yes, I think it will definatley flop also. The market is moving towards multimedia units. i.e console/dvd/cd/networking/online.
This is a good idea, that will never conjure enough support in the long run

  12. mark Unregistered 7 years ago

look quite scary and giant like the x-box with its dinner plate controllers but sounds like a console that will be more successfull than the x-box

  13. Sam Unregistered 7 years ago

More succesful then the x-box? This will be the Coleco to the Ataris of the big 3. Or 2, seeing how well the cube is performing.

  14. mike Unregistered 7 years ago

    I am skeptical too
take a look at the controls, the buttons on the right side are obstructed by the thumb joystick.

    This is an hoax

  15. joe Unregistered 7 years ago

this is the next 3do or jaguar, maybe they will bring it out,but who will buy it? no-one.

  16. John Unregistered 7 years ago

Definetly gonna flop like Dreamcast probably worse than Dreamcast. Their biggest mistake is having to load the games on your system. What if it erases then what? I will not even consider buying this system. And it is an untrue statement saying that they are not competing with Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. They are in the business of video games which means that they are indeed competition.

  17. FireH Unregistered 7 years ago

geez people, if ur even thiking about buying this then u probably already have a pc, so do everyone a favor and save ur self some money, go buy a friggin pc game (40$)

  18. Tobydoby Unregistered 7 years ago

If they only have computergrafix and not real pix, the chances of a hoax is there...big time. And how the hell are they going to compete in an already oversaturated marked without heavy pre-advertising. HOAAAAXXXX!

  19. qetesh Unregistered 7 years ago

    'phantom' duh!!

    don't you guys know anything?

  20. nose@spregg.fslife.co.uk Unregistered 7 years ago

I don't see why they would hoax, what can they get out of it? What a waste of time... Well yeah.. I rekon that it is a hoax anyway, since there are already like 4 newish consoles out there, all flopping, I think they would have left it a while longer, so gamers become desperate. But aaah why would they say stuff like "it doen't have DVD" and it's cons... I'm running away. I'm not much of a gamer anyhoo.

  21. JMG114 Unregistered 7 years ago

Isn't there already a machine out that can play PC games broadband..? Isn't it called a... PC..?

  22. Rick Unregistered 7 years ago

Yeah I saw the website too and its extremely dull and inconcrete, the "in depth" look at the phantom was just like three sentences long. VERY in depth. Plus there isnt more in it then whats on all the news going around. Yep, its a hoax.

  23. TOJO THE GREAT Unregistered 7 years ago

If you want my opinion its never coming out cause its BOOLLSHIIITTT

  24. Ryan Foley Unregistered 7 years ago

Please sign contracts with all the major companies so we can all play xbox, ps2, and gamcube games. (at least sign rockstar games)

  25. Bob Unregistered 7 years ago

So this just will seem to upgrade my PC gaming? Cross gendering my PC/console ? Games will be better ? Games are the same ?
By now we would have know more on this "State of the Art" system. Release 12/2003 ? Not seeing it. If they are going to go big, you need to have a wider range that this. Ehh... Anything could happen.

  26. simonsayz Unregistered 7 years ago

I think i will just wait till 2005 for playstation 3. especially at the ridiculous price you all are asking for it. I mean hell, at least the playstation can play a fricken dvd.
What the hell were they thinking when the designed this thing.

  27. gamer Unregistered 7 years ago

will it be good graphics cos u know the rubbish internet games, i know it will be good but how good & will there be any good games that we know of like GTA

  28. Nick yengich Unregistered 7 years ago

What are you doing you can;t compete agenst nintendo and sony and is this system online only?i have 56k! do you have any idea how much it is going to cost?

  29. Nick yengich Unregistered 7 years ago

this couldent be possable, the company is only 4 months old and they say a dec 2003 launch yeah right,Hoax or not this company scares me they are up to something?maybe stealing credit card numbers?

  30. dj bj Unregistered 7 years ago

    loud false coughs of *fake*

  31. dj bj Unregistered 7 years ago

i dunno if it is fake i also read of it on
telly text on c4 so im 50/50 on it at the moment
and if riccy d reads thjis suk mi ass

  32. HG Unregistered 7 years ago

    It's a hoax.
Why are people still covering it?

  33. hg Unregistered 7 years ago

It's a hoax. Why are people STILL giving it exposure? Fools!

  34. Paul Unregistered 7 years ago

Hoax or not... Not every area of every country has broadband access, so using broadband to deliver games is going to limit the size of the market and force owners into a monthly subscription. If I buy a playstation, apart from games, I don't have to pay anything more. Further, apart from being faster it has nothing more to offer. 'Free games' that come with consols are the same as 'pre-loaded' in effect. PS2 and XBox have broadband capability - what do you think the gaping hole is for at the back of the PS2?

  35. Paul Unregistered 7 years ago

Further to my post above, the only purpose of doing away with a DVD/CD drive and using broadband to load the games is that copying games would become more difficult. This whole scheme seems to me an attempt to win over software houses with the promise of 'increased profits'. The same as the cartridge over CD/DVD. Except you pay for their copyright protection scheme. As if they didn't suck enough out of parents/children already!

  36. this sucks Unregistered 7 years ago

this is so stupid it will never work and is a terrble idea.

  37. Eddie Unregistered 6 years ago

Won't happen. Can we say "Indrema?"

  38. Retrodude Unregistered 6 years ago

anyone remember the Taito WoWoW-no?then I rest my case.....Infinium shall flop

  39. Retrodude Unregistered 6 years ago

Another peice of info:It must be a hoax!all depts of Infinium labs are run by the same guy:STEVE FOSTER, not only that, but the company is completely net-based, the nearest to a place in time and space is a mailbox, surrounded by a few art shops, anyone else who leaves a message saying 'oh wow!the phantom is sure to beat xbox and playstation2'or even'the phantom will flop'as I will admit thinking myself to begin with,.People who still think it's a real console are gullible fools who'll believe any peice of advertising that's acompanied with a small-scale measure of hype

  40. Ricky7 Unregistered 6 years ago

What kind of name is "The Phantom" lol, i agree it looks like the big chunky XBOX, all the online gamings on XBOX and PS2 suck.... how is this one going to be any better... If i had a choice id stick with the good ol PC

  41. dave Unregistered 6 years ago

for those who think that the phantom would be a better deal than a pc..they say that it would be 600+ dollars. you can easily build an awesome pc your self for that much, or buy a half decent one!
or in that case, everyone has a pc. take 600 bucks and see how far you can go upgrading yours. buy a tv card for 50 bucks and have your tv as the screen.

  42. Bushin Unregistered 6 years ago

i dont know, i think it's a hoax, after all, theres been no pre release material and a severe lack of anything in the way of advertising. hoax.

  43. Jimmy Unregistered 6 years ago

I think it is a Hoax!

  44. Allan Unregistered 6 years ago

Given the problems that even Microsoft had shifting serious units of their powerfull x-box. Its seems optimistic to think that the phantom could ever really fullfill more than a niche roll in an already saturated video games market. Good luck to them as its always good when the consumer is provided with more choice. But with PS2 and x-box getting there online systems up and running the phantom will really have to somthing special in order for gamers to part with their cash.

  45. Jason Unregistered 6 years ago

Yes and they are expensive, relatively difficult to use and require a lot of space

  46. Freddie Montana Unregistered 6 years ago

Among other things, this system MUST be able to play games from PS1, PS2, X-Box, Game Cube and the PC; if it's not DVD capable, then what good is it? If there are smart, they would also remove the restrictions placed by this region playable nonsence: USA being region 1, others 2, 3 & 4. Plus make it universal: PAL, NTSC/UC and NTSC/C (Japanese) must go. Then and only then will players pay attention.
    MAKE the system UNIVERSAL.

  47. Dark Shadow Unregistered 6 years ago

Hey just wait til E3, we will find out if it is "real" or not at E3. They claim it will be there...

  48. Haplo Unregistered 6 years ago

I agree, but if it does all it claims it can do maybe it will be the best thing to ever happen to us.

  49. Haplo Unregistered 6 years ago

Man, The Infinium Labs home page boasts like 50,000 titles will be released. There no way they would say that unless they had some deals going. But i do think that the majority of the games will be stuff like Tetris, Pac man, and solitare though.

  50. Haplo Unregistered 6 years ago

The X-box controller is cool once you get used to it. Plus the Phantoms controler is wireless.

  51. Haplo Unregistered 6 years ago

I like the wireless feature on the controller, but it does still look really weak. Kinda like one of those crappy PC controllers.

  52. Haplo Unregistered 6 years ago

Agreed. But I think downloading games is a cool feature.

  53. Nick V. Unregistered 6 years ago

Does the Phantom play GC, PS2, or X-Box games? And does it play DVDs, and CDs?

  54. matthew Unregistered 6 years ago

will it be able to retain memory without a memory card?

  55. jenny Unregistered 6 years ago

When will we be able to pre-order it and what is the likely price?

  56. kt Unregistered 6 years ago

    yeah right... and i'm God...

  57. Jeff Odekirk Unregistered 6 years ago

i have no home, can i have 1?

  58. David Williams Unregistered 6 years ago

I think your console is going to suck compared to xbox 2

  59. Chris Unregistered 6 years ago

Infinium labs should keep in mind that not everyone has a fast connection and downloading games will therefore be impossable.

  60. MATTHEW Unregistered 6 years ago

What does Phantom mean? Ghost I rest my case.

  61. Mathew Montgomery Unregistered 6 years ago

What are the odds that their next press release is written in leetspeek?

I have yet to see any reason to believe that this concept will become a reality. Nor do I believe that Infinium Labs has the backing of any third-party developers, an in-house development system, or otherwise any method of producing entertainment.

If all of what they say is true, we're about to enter a new utopia of interactive entertainment.

If half of what they say is true, Infinium Labs will run the video game industry.

If a quarter of what they say is true, the Phantom will represent a creative, fiscaly sound alternative to the conventional method of creating and producing games.

If an eighth of what they say is true, the appocolypse is not too far off.

    ~Mat~

  62. Rocca Unregistered 6 years ago

I believe this is a hoax.. It sounds to unreal somehow. Well, it remains to be seen, but for now - I don't care about this, neither do I believe it.

  63. hello Unregistered 6 years ago

Wake up people, if it can't play DVDs then how can it play PS2 or Xbox games which are DVD roms. Use a little common sense.......if they haven't been hyping it up for at least a year or two then its not real.

  64. Tunderwall Unregistered 6 years ago

Lets all see if this thing will compete with top brands like Sony and Microsoft. If it tops all standards i think ill buy it.But the games this console will give we dont know and if if it is worth the cash of broadband gaming you have to wait for a game instead of buy frome a store

  65. NEO Unregistered 6 years ago

INDREMEDA CONSOLE RING A BELL ANYONE? IT WILL FLOP YOU ARE RIGHT. FOR STARTING A PROJECT LIKE THIS YOU EITHER TOOK A COME A CROPPER OR YOU'VE GOT POCKETS DEEPER THAN MICROSOFT. BLODDY HELL ARE THESE PEOPLE THINKING?

  66. matt Unregistered 6 years ago

i have read a lot of reviews in gaming magazines and some of them say that the phantom is a hoax and others say it isn't i don't know who to believe

  67. Voodookid Unregistered 6 years ago

Shame all the pics appear to be computer generated. Kinda seems to me they haven't got a product and are trying to scam corporate sponors. Or whatever. The fact that they say cds are on the way out. By the time this thing is released maybe but not now. They seem to b WAY ahead of themselves!

  68. j.man Unregistered 6 years ago

who the heck are infium labs

  69. voice of reason Unregistered 6 years ago

why would it be a hoax seriously. what benefit would they get out of it? "haha you all fell victim to our giant hoax" yea, wow, its not a hoax you dorks... what would be their benefit? its not like they made us look dumb, it will only make the ones saying its a hoax look dumb when it comes out...

    :)

  70. bob Unregistered 6 years ago

    looks tight

  71. John Unregistered 6 years ago

does it play disc like and xbox since it is alsmost is the same

  72. cj Unregistered 6 years ago

when will the phantom be sold in stores. and how much will it be??? And where do you plug in the controllers on the PHANTOM??

  73. Ataridude Unregistered 6 years ago

if this is anything like the service back in 94, i dont remember what its called, then it will flop. but if it can deliver Multiplayer games like the new star wars or anarchy online, or any other top names through its delivery system successfuly and keep the system running fast, then by god u got my money.

i only hope that this can put xbox live to shame as well as sony online.

  74. Tim Unregistered 6 years ago

My understanding is that Timothy M. Roberts is the CEO. What is his background?Where is Infinium located? I would like to get some support and services information to him?

  75. Jaygee Unregistered 6 years ago

If you're a retro fan then this "console" may interest some, but for those of us who tried to go back already and decided that whats in the past should stay there, is there any real incentive to buy such a "console". I certainly won't be spending my Broadband subscription on " Manic Miner" or "Pacman". I feel, as a member of this industry, that the real money is in the current "console" market, platform cross overs, and "exclusive" releases. I may be wrong, I guess we'll just have to wait and see......

  76. Steve Baker Unregistered 6 years ago

The problem with the console market is that the big three operate by selling the consoles at a loss and making money by charging game developers licensing fees.

For this console to have as many titles as they claim, it must be running existing PC games. Since those already exist, they cannot be charging licensing fees to the developers.

So one of two possibilities remains:

    1) The console will be VERY expensive compared to Xbox, GameCube or PS-2. Consumers see the prices of the console as a key thing. Parents want to buy their kids a great Xmas present - and they fail to consider the cost of the games. If Infinium have gone this route, they will die for sure.

    2) Since this thing has no demountable media and they are talking in terms of "A Subscription Service", they could be charging either monthly fees or "Pay Per Play". That would be a fairly novel approach - and might allow them to sell the console for very little money. However, can "Pay Per Play"
possibly work? No parent is going to write their kid a blank check to spend all of their free time playing games that charge per play. Think how much trouble kids get into for running up cell phone bills!

So, I think they must be thinking in terms of either one-time game rental charges (The "BlockBuster" approach) or a monthly subscription service. The former ought to be quite easy to set up - the latter would require a LOT of negotiation with each individual game company.

Not a single definite answer. Looks like they don't know anything themselves. Suspicious.
