UFO: Aftermath is a 3D strategy game promising a compelling sci-fi story. It combines global strategy with small squad tactical combat, as the player fights an alien invasion. Tactics and action will blend with RPG elements, and unique mix of genres is promised. Ferrago spoke with the developer Altar’s spokesman Jiri Rydl to find out more.
Ferrago: Tell us little about the story behind UFO: Aftermath.
JR: The day after tomorrow, a giant spacecraft approaches the Earth. Silently it hovers ominously over the world, and begins to release great clouds of spores into the upper atmosphere. Rapidly multiplying, the spores soon darken the skies, and before long obscure the sun completely. In later days, this period will be known as the ‘Twilight’.
Having reached critical mass in the skies, the spores begin to rain down, and over the course of several days, begin to clog the streets, rest on water, smothering people in their homes, and burying animals in the wild. During the ‘Nightfall’, as it would come to be called, most of the higher life forms on the earth were wiped out.
During the Twilight, all human responses were futile. Choosing caution over aggression, the governments of the world didn’t realize how quickly the end could come, and were buried alongside those that they governed. A few, however, did survive, sealed in underground bases with stocks of food and oxygen. After several weeks, the spores seemed to have disintegrated, decomposing and settling into the soil. The world seemed safe again, for a time. This is where you come in: you must gather together the remaining peoples of the planet, find out what has happened, and, if possible, get your revenge.
Ferrago: The game play featured in UFO appears to blend several genres – tell us more about this.
JR: UFO: Aftermath is squad based tactical strategy game set in a post apocalyptic world.
Ferrago: ..and the various elements of this gameplay?
JR: UFO: Aftermath consists of two main parts: the strategic one and the tactical one. In the strategic part of the game, you must manage your bases, interceptions, and squads. Here you have to fight with biomass – a slimy, tangled mass creeping slowly across the whole of the world.

I like the storyline.
Yeah the storyline sounds great, I am looking forward to the release
Anything for more X-Com/UFO. Apart from Appocalypse those 2 games were so enjoyably tense.
Sorry people, its XCom dumbed down and simplified, maybe someone else will do this properly.
First off, there were 5 X-Com games, not 3. Though really only 3 of this kind. I've been waiting myself, ever since X-Com Apoc, for another to come along. Jagged Alliance didnt quite cut it. I think we have to give this one a chance. Yeah, its simplified... Im disappointed. But who knows, could be good. They are atleast trying to capture the awesome mood music/graphics of X-com
Keep it simple x-com developers :)
Xcom 1 and 2 were simple. It ruled
I never played the UFO/X-Com thing coz the demo destroyed my laptop at the time...
Macie moze jakes demo grywalne ????
UFO, The Song
Download UFO from the cd Rock This World by James Caine. It's the song the government doesn't want on the radio. http://www.jamescaine.us/home.htm
Interesting concept - we'll see how it turns out.
I was well chuffed when i heard a new ufo game was coming out. I loved enemy unknown (although you had to kepp swapping the disks around on the amiga) and apocalypse. Hope the gameplay has not altered too much tho as kicks alpays butt. Will there be voices from the troops tho? Tanks like in E.Unk? and fit citizens ur troops can play with. Lets av it :-D
When I start x-com: ufo aftermath I am promted to upgrade my driver, but I am not sure which one I'm supposed to download. Also, when I play the game it is chopped up as if freezing for seconds at a time. Do you know how I can fix this?

Long live the ascendants of the mighty X-Com series!
I've waited soo long for a successor of the serie and now it's almost upon us. Joy!
It will be a great game.
The game sounds promising, yet there is a "but". Perhaps it is not fair to compare Aftermath with previous xcom games especially seeing as the graphics are so in depth however Apocalypse is a great favourate of mine. I enjoyed the fact that several squads could be be involved in an assault on the same map and that research and development was so deep . Aftermath only seems to offer 1 squad of eight in an assault and not so deep a research side. To be honest I miss apocalypse because since updating to XP I cannot play this excellent game. I have seeked patches and updates that would allow me to play this game on xp but without success. So perhaps I was hoping Aftermath was going to be an xp clone of Apocalypse.
I apreciate it may not be healthy for games to exactly copy their ancestors and i am sure once I start playing aftermath I shall enjoy it as much as any of the other xcom games I have played. But at the moment I feel there is a void which Aftermath is not going to be able to fill where Apocalpse is concerned. And perhaps it is a void that Aftermath should not fill so if anyone does know of a means of allowing me to continue playing apocalypse on XP I will be a very happy gamer.
What do you do with the Eon ticket? What is it for?
