PS1 titles hit PS3 in Japan
Retro hits reach Store out east
As promised a couple of weeks ago, Sony are beginning to role out their array of PS1 hits for the PlayStation 3 - with the first titles now available in Japan (where the re-releases first began hitting the PSP some months ago).
Tekken 2, R-Types, Arc the Lad, Bishi Bashi Special and Resident Evil count among Japan's first PSone releases for the PlayStation 3. 11 PS3-compatible PS1 titles can now be downloaded from the PlayStation Store, while Sony have also released 14 PSP-only PS1 games online - rather confusingly.
The new titles (both PS3 and PSP releases) require update 1.70 for the PS3, and the 3.40 firmware for the PSP - and the games are only available from the Japanese online service thus far. We're told that old PSone save game files will work with the new releases, when an old memory card is attached to the console using the USB adapter.
Of course, it is unclear when these services will be heading to North America, Europe and elsewhere - though this Japanese launch at least suggests the local launches are moving a step closer. More soon.

....north to america? lol
more to the point, there were always going to be backdates, i mean, anything classic can be rebooted, repolished and shoved back on the shelves with improved graphics.. (any new content though?) its just like buying a restored disney classic. Plus it fills time for the real delay in bringing out the new games. Appeals to an old customer base which obviously exists; Appeals to new generation gamers i.e. this may be the first time they've seen the game; Keeps the market going stale; and keeps the cash flowing. Happy happy people all round.
Personally, im enjoying all the old games on emulators, essentially theyre all just computer games.
Still... the PS3 is too expensive, then again it is a pricing deadlock between microsoft(Xbox) and sony(PS3).
....well you asked for our thoughts ;)
Happy gaming
