Worldwide PS3 sales at 4.48 million
14.5 million predicted by end of financial year...
Sony have ben talking financials today, confirming their Q1 2007 results, revealing their sales to date and projections for the future. Perhaps most notably, the company are predicting PS3 worldwide sales of 14.5 million by April 2008.
Back to the present, however, and at the end of Q1 worldwide sales of the next-gen system stand at 4.48 million units. Q1 sales totaled 0.71 million worldwide, with the majority of the consoles sold so far being shifted in Q3/4 2006. The platform holder needs to sell 10.29 million units in the remaining three quarters of the year, to hit the 14.5 million target. That's quite a lot.
While the PS3 situation may be far from certain, Sony's other consoles are looking much better, 2.7 million PS2s being shifted in Q1 2007, with PSP sales healthy at 2.14 million. Both consoles did in fact improve over their Q1 2006 performances.
Sony hope to sell 10 million PS2s and nine million PSPs by the end of the 2007 financial year. More fact and figures as they reach us on the numberwire.

LOL @ predictions.
Having just played the Heavenly Sword demo... I'd say that the PS3 is about to become very much the 'must have' console!!
PLaystation 3 is a really amazing console. I wouldn't be surprised if it sold A LOT more than 360 even with its one year lead. GO PS3!
What is the source of this figures??
I can post a article that says Xbox360 sold 15 million in the 1st quarter and Wii sold 100 Million lol .. Seriously provide your source..
And Heck no are they going to sell 10 million for the year...
Sony cannot report the number of consoles users have actually bought - they have no way of knowing. The reported numbers are likely units shipped, as is commonly reported as units sold by all the major console makers.
Steve027, the article says "talking financials today." Since Sony announced their Q1 results today and held their investor conference call, it stands to reason these are the numbers that were given.
The (big) numbers here are targets for shipments for the rest of their fiscal year.
interesting, sony must have something big in the cards
interesting, sony must have something big in the cards
IMPORTANT FACTS
(1) Sony has only SOLD 3.89 million systems to consumers. The other systems are STILL sitting on store shelves collecting dust.
Sony's definition of "Sold," is different than the definition of "Sold," used by Nintendo and Microsoft. If Sony sells a system to a store, they consider it "Sold," even if a consumer never "Buys." But Nintendo and Microsoft only consider something "Sold," if a consumer actually buys it.
(2) If you want to compare systems the way that Sony is comparing them, in terms of the number of systems "Sold," to stores, there are 11.6 MILLION Xbox 360 systems that have been sold to stores, and 9.6 Million Wii systems that have been sold to stores.
(3) There is NO WAY IN THE UNIVERSE that Sony will EVER achieve their sales goal by March of 2008. All that announcement is intended to do is deceive Sony stock shareholders. But it DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE, because Sony has told FAR TOO MANY LIES ALREADY and NOBODY BELIEVES SONY'S LIES anymore!
(4) Sony needs to worry about accomplishing thier previous goal, before they set new goals!
(5) In July of 2006, Sony said their goal was to sell 6 million Playstation 3 systems by March of 2007. When March of 2007 got here, Sony had sold less than 3 million systems! That LITERALLY means Sony didn't even accomplish half of their sales goal!
Steve027, these very figures from NPD have been published around the web. Aside from the sales target announced by Sony, none of this is new news. For the first half of the year (January - June), the PS3 sold 763k units, the 360 sold 1.24M units, and the Wii sold 2.1M units. Even the PSP outsold the PS3 in the first half with 1.2M units sold, though it paled in comparison to the 2.68M units the DS sold.
Oh, and let me be the first to welcome you to the Internet. You might be interested in this thing called "Google" that some people like to use from time to time, jerkoff.

Get your facts straightened out, sir. The term "sold" in the business realm in self explanatory business terms applies to EVERY known legal corporation you could imagine, not just a particular entity. I mean EVERY business that LEGALLY decides to consider itself a corporation. Your statement has little to no merit based on your little material "fact" you digged up.
no freakin' way they'll sell that many in such a short period of time, especially since everyone wants a wii, including mii
Some thoughts... www.gfdata.de/archiv07-2007-gamefront/pssale.jpg
Those are the numbers Sony publishes. It explains Sony's concept of "sold"
As for Sony's sales goals. Well, it's a sales goal. Anyone who's worked sales knows that sales goals exist to push sales beyond what could be expected, but not out of the realm of possibility. Sony's got some games at the end of this year and at least one for early next year (Little Big Planet).
Clearly, this sales goal is based on hope for things like the price incentives to deplete stock of the 60GB units, strong blu-ray push, games like Lair, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, GTA, Army of Two, Assasins Creed, DMC, Mercenaries, and Motorstorm. While not every game will appeal to everyone, the variety there is very common for sony's consoles, and they hope will push their sales.
Personally, I don't think they'll meet the sales goal. It would be nice for them, I wish them all the best, I just don't think it will happen.
Well M$ cook the numbers for the 360 aswell, lets face it, 12 million 360's sold with a 33% failure rate. And to many people already bought replacement consoles before the warranty got improved = 7-8 million consoles actually in use. But i suppose the only console thats selling like a mad thing is wii. But hey everybody, why let stuff like this worry you ? just let it be and enjoy your darn machine, is that not why you bought the thing ?
These 4.48 consoles are actually sold consoles...as far as shipping consoles that is 5.6 million (which they announced a while back in Australia Land)...get your numbers right you 'Nay-sayers'...
SK
there rumors of slim PS3 for 2008, if not 2009. I think i wanna wait till then to buy PS3. Hoepfully the system will be about $100 less by then. But any way, by 2009, PS3 will either be neck and neck with 360 in sales or leading...
The ps3 is going to be a must have system eventually in the next year or two because the 360 games are still on dvds and ps3 has blue ray which holds like 50gb
steve027 what kinda source are you reading from? nintendo couldn't have produced that many wiis unless they were making them a good few years before the release. 100 million i mean seriously come on. Also this source must be pretty out of date by now website update plz
great to here that what are the current sales number at the now
