Activision and developer Vicarious Visions have revealed that the new version of III will not be controlled via the touch-screen interface, instead a special peripheral will be launched for the game.

News of the new gizmo was let slip when designer Andrew Earle told website GamesAreFun that the stylus would not be the main mode of control for the eagerly awaited rhythm-action game. Something based on existing Guitar Hero controllers from other platforms could be the order of the day, though nothing has been finalised as yet.

That said, Vicarious are hoping to deliver a similar style of experience to the other successful GH titles on other formats, and are presently designing the new control 'thing' with this in mind.

We'll keep our noses to the ground for more information on this. Guitar Hero is expected to hit the DS later this year.
