Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway lead has defended the Unreal Engine 3 against vocal criticisms of late, speaking to the press at a preview event for Gearbox's forthcoming FPS.

Midway blamed with the middleware technology for delays to major releases like BlackSite, while have been at the centre of with over the quality of the licensed tech.

Pitchford, however, is certainly not among the detractors, the game maker stating: "We love Unreal Engine. It's an outstanding piece of technology. Where we've used it as it's come, it's been solid and secure for us. It's great multiplatform technology, so we can run on the PS3, and PC.

"I've seen some of the stuff on the internet about the problems and I don't know if these developers are maybe new, or not used to using other people's technology or if they've gotten too many inexperienced developers or they're just cry-babies, I just don't know."

He said the middleware had shaved years off time, praising Epic's continuing efforts to improve the technology, and the advantages of using a tried-and-tested engine.

We'll have more on Hell's Highway shortly.
