Sony's new update for the will arrive in on the 18th of December, the 3.8 upgrade introducing a number of new updates for the Japanese market, where the new PSP Slim & Lite has been going down a treat.

Using the Japanese-standard 1seg tuner, the 3.8 update will enable gamers to record live TV programs, although you won't be able to do this, and use the PSP's other functions, at the same time.

The new functionality will however allow you to tell the PSP to record a particular show, after which the device will cleverly go to sleep. Using YahooBB wireless hot-spots around Japan, PSP users will now also be able to grab demos and other content on the go, thanks to update 3.8.

Internet radio support will also be ushered in with the fresh firmware, according to Japanese weekly Famitsu. The 18th will see the patch distributed across the rest of the world, too, though we're unsure whether this Japanese functionality will be offered everywhere.
