In-game XMB promised by Sony
PSN boss working on feature
Sony Computer Entertainment has this week accepted that access to the PlayStation 3's Cross Media Bar (or XMB, as we put it in the title) is desirable from within games, hinting that the longed-for feature could be added in the near future.
Eric Lempel, Sony's PSN big wig, has confirmed XMB access is indeed a priority.
"We are looking at a number of enhancements related to accessing some of the XMB features during gameplay, including messaging your friends," the big cheese told ShackNews. "While there's no timeline to announce at this point, we've heard loud and clear from consumers that in-game XMB access is one of the most requested PS3 enhancements."
Presently, players are required to quit to the main menu in order to access XMB features such as messages and other social networking aspects, and given that Xbox Live already handles all this cleverness admirably we're sure Sony won't want to be behind for long.
