The ESA report indicates that gaming girls spend on average 7.4 hours per week playing games. Casual games are popular, as are Sims-style social titles. Women reportedly make up 55% of the audience playing such games, in fact.
As well as the Nintendo DS, girls are also rather taken with MMO titles, action-adventure games, and even first-person shooters.
Sony Online Entertainment's Torrie Dorrell offers: "What is lacking in the equation are women behind these games."
Women represent just 12% of the games industry itself, apparently.
Sony Online are in fact hoping to attract more female employees, and are helping set-up new initiatives to encourage female game makers - called G.I.R.L., Gamers In Real Life, a program designed to attract more young women to careers in game development.
More soon.
