Developer Obsidian, makers of Knights of the Old Republic II, are collaborating with on a new project, a James Bond-style role-player called Alpha Protocol. The Japanese firm will publish.

Kotaku reveal that Alpha Protocol will be developed for the PC, and PS3, players entering the shoes of spy Michael Thornton, promising an action-focussed RPG.

Story will play a key role in the new title, and the game will begin with a botched mission in which Thornton's world will be turned 'upside-down'.

"A modern day espionage focused action/RPG that takes you on a suspenseful ride in the vein of James Bond, Jack Bauer, and Jason Bourne. Take a wet-behind-the-ears greenhorn agent up through the ranks to become a bona-fide super spy," is promised by Obsidian.

Comparisons are already being drawn with Mass Effect, the dialogue and combat system in the game apparently influenced by BioWare's sci-fi epic. Our hero should also get to use his charms, as required.

10 skills will be available to improve as you progress in the game, while Obsidian are of course also working on the RPG for Sega.

Alpha Protocol will be released in spring 2009.
