Steam now hosting community mods
Source-powered creations now live
Valve's game-changing Steam content delivery service will begin hosting community-developed mods from this week, the developer starting to distribute the most popular add-ons created by fans.
Mods Age of Chivalry, D.I.P.R.I.P., Insurgency, Synergy, and Zombie Panic will launch shortly, and will be available as free downloads to anyone with a Source-powered game.
Valve are clearly mindful that these community creations can dramatically extend the life-cycle of their games, and the developer will also usher in lashings of statistics via the Steamworks platform, which will keep track of mods.
Steam is of course home to a number of third-party titles, other publishers embracing the game maker's PC content delivery platform as a new business model.
