Fallout 3 isn't quite up to par on the PlayStation 3, if forums awash with slightly enraged players are to be taken as indicative.

Fans of the new game are more than a little miffed by some of the technical being reported around the PlayStation version of the new RPG-FPS.

Apparently, the title is the frequent victim of locks-ups, slowdown and other irritants. have yet to reply, but if these incidents turn out to be widespread we'd expect a quick-fire patch and a few apologies.

You can enjoy all this unhappiness for yourself via the forums in question.

yeah i picked it up Thursday took it home began playing and it not so much as froze up but just wouldn't continue. while listening to a NPC's . he just stop talking i waited like 15 minutes not knowing what was going on. so i reloaded my game went back same thing, i was a little pissed i had just spent 65 bucks and could only get 20 minutes of game play so after reloading again and going back to the character and doing things a littte different he finally finished his sentence and i was able to play again.

It is kind of weird that with all this advanced technology used in making these game and yet time after time they ships out with bugs and glitches..i mean can't they just delay the game in order to completely make it bug free. What's the worst that can happen if a developer delays the game in order to make it bug free.

What about the hords of issues with the PC version?

thats what you get for buying that pos playstation, you should have gotten the 360 biotches...

The problem is a simple one: Fallout 3 is a PC game. People should play it on the correct platform.

  7. :| Unregistered 1 year ago

It's even worse on PC. The Bethesda forums are flooded with TONS of PC users that can't even play the game, it constantly crashes to desktop, freezes the computer, or whatever other crap.

Worst game launch ever, in my opinion.

Fable 2 on the 360 now thats one broken game the Lionhead forums are full of problems. Full on game cannot be played problems. Shame for PS3 owners that have got this version (I own both consoles and decided to pick up the 360 one). Too many games being rushed out nowadays with the mentality of it's ok we can patch so easy now.

    @Nick

The Xbox 360 was the development platform for Fallout 3. The PC and PS3 versions are technically ports. If you want to nitpick then the proper platform would be the 360.

This isn't a PS3 issue only. I'm playing on a PC I built earlier this year. I've had lock-ups, a few drops to desktop (not crashes), and numerous other weird bugs while using the Pip Boy interface and VATS. But over-all it's still a remarkable game. PC Gamers tend to have thicker skins (at least those of us who have been doing it for several decades). :)

  15. marc Unregistered 1 year ago

okay so it has locked up a few times....but that isn't insanely bad
but now whenever i talk to someone the dialogue goes by so fast i can't read it!!!
    not cool!

It's frustrating. I'm underground, and when trying to exit certain doors, the game completely freezes, and I have to turn off my PS3. Also, the game freezes EVERY time I try to do fast travel. It is very annoying, because the game is so awesome. Bethesda needs to get their stuff together and issue a free downloadable patch via the Playstation Network ASAP. I'm sure this is ticking off a lot of you. I want to continue my game so bad, but do not want to do so until I know it is completely fixed/

I now have 50+ hours into Fallout 3 and have had every problem discussed in the comments. Here is the short list.
    1. The G.O.A.T. test
I sat in the in the desk and game just would not give the test so I restarted and it worked.
    2. Friends
I just logged out of the PS3 network.
    3. My main problem is sometimes in VATS, while my guy is shooting it just freezes for up to 1min. Then finishes.
    4. I just saw this one last night while doing the optional part of the survivors guide quest about the history of Rivot City. When I talked to the guy in the front part of the ship he had no voice and the game kept skipping over the conversation. I could only read the questions.

I plan to put up with this until there is a patch because I do like the game. Come on Bethesda, patch this thing already. I played Resistance 2 the day it came out and it already had a patch.

spinning bones, and the occasional floating character, as un pro as it make look I can deal with but main characters found dead for no reason in my case (walter, megaton water fix guy) and parts of quests that cant be done (fix the robots in big town) is pretty bad hope the patch comes out real fast. I'm worried about hitting one of the cant finsh the game glitches now,,,, this is why game testers are a good thing.

I own both PS3, and 360. I have the 360 version of Fallout 3 and have many similar issues that are reported on the PS3 ver. They game has locked up on me several times while going through a door, and sometimes in V.A.T.S. Other times it's just random. I run the display at 1080p, and dropped it down to 720p to see if that would put less stress on the console; no luck though. Another annoying problem is that the framerate drops significantly when there are multiple enemies onscreen - most likely do to all the AI. A buddy of mine has the right thumbstick issue, and is really pissed about it. Another friend is running the PC ver. of the game, and says it's plagued by odd glitches, and freakishly tough on the hardware. I really believe the coding is just bad in certain parts. So hopefully a patch will be released soon. Btw- On the 360 ver. I found that deleting gamesaves really seems to improve the overall performance. I try to keep mine at 50 or less. It really sucks that such a great game is plagued by so many issues. Bethesda really needs to ramp up their QA department- They're an independent company, so it's not like they're pressed to release by a specific deadline. You think they would have learned their lesson from Oblivion >.<

I am freezing on the main quest. I need to speak to a character to go on to the next part, but when I approach her the game freezes and thats it. I've tried everything imaginable. Now I have to start over again. I am so pissed at this game.

  26. David Unregistered 9 months ago

I have consistently had issues with the game since I started playing but as I progressed they became more frequent. The problems are mostly related to freezing. Black screens with and without music freezes. Normal screens with and without music freezes. Game freezes when exiting/entering a structure. Freezes in V.A.T.S. Freezes when simply walking around. Most of the time I have to restart the system and load from last save but on occasion it will momentarily freeze for several seconds and then resume as normal. It will lag quite a bit for only a fraction of a second or up to a second when walking around. I have also had it go into a permanent choppy frame rate, that’s the only way I can describe it, similar to early films that had a low frame rate, only solution is to save and reload. Other glitches include enemies I have not yet been in battle with flying at a high rate of speed by me and landing quite a distance away. Also enemies that I have killed but their bodies disappear as soon as they die. Checking a metal box or something of similar nature or a body that does NOT say [EMPTY] and finding it empty or not being able to check bodies or objects at all, I only hear a click when it clearly states ‘Search …….” or “Open …..” On a few occasions during an explosion there is a wire spinning spider like thing that erratically floats around in the air. I have also purchased medical help from a doctor and then looked at my status and there was no change. I have gotten stuck between objects and had to restart, most memorably at the ranger compound storage room. There are objects that you cannot obtain or move that you would normally be able to elsewhere in the game, again most memorably at the ranger compound storage room there is a deans electronics underneath a generator that could not be obtained. I have had sound issues such as when I am firing a weapon there will be no sound at all or at times it will come later after I am finished firing. I usually listen to the score of the game and at times it will go silent during normal game play. Speaking of sound issues, I have the PS3 connected via HDMI to a large HDTV and then logitech computer speakers connected to the tv. When playing any other game or when using the computer or watching a movie or anything else that requires sound they work perfectly but when playing Fallout 3, some music, dialog and other game sounds only come out of the right speaker so there is some issue there but that’s probably not common with most players. Another issue is that I will be in battle and then after I have finished and have been walking a while it will indicate the damage I’ve inflicted on my enemy instead of it registering as it should upon contact. Pipboy screen on several occasions will become so bright when I bring it up that its almost impossible to read, while everything else is normal brightness, I have to save and reload to resolve the issue. I don’t know if this is a glitch or designed into the game but I noticed a couple of times when I was firing the Vengeance (which for those of you who don’t know is the upgraded model of the Gatling Laser) off of the top of a small cliff at an enemy, the laser would go straight a few feet and then turn 90 degrees and hit the enemy. We all know a laser goes in a straight line plus my gun was pointed out and not down at the enemy. I have 3 followers or rather had 3 followers now two….this is another glitch it seems. Had Fawkes, Dogmeat and Charon. Fawkes and Charon followed me into a building but Dogmeat for some reason stayed behind. (no enemies nearby) When I had explored the building I then exited to the wasteland to find: “Dogmeat has died”. I have had on numerous occasions had one or the other or all 3 not follow me at all and I have to go back and find them or have to reload the game because they would stand in one spot while I traveled quite a distance away. I have noticed friends and foes alike completely frozen throughout the game where you cannot interact with them and you can walk through them as though they were not there. Other somewhat ‘normal’ glitches are different scenery will flash/blink or not look as it was obviously designed to. Remembering way back after entering the classroom it would not let me take the G.O.A.T. Sound of gun fire when entering a structure or some other clicking or pounding sound when no one but me is in the structure is another glitch. I have never played a game with so many problems and I am not even close to listing them all, but still this is the most appealing game to me that I have ever played. If it were not as awesome as it is I would have never put up with all its errors. Maybe I’m not as experienced as most gamers but when dealing with a game of this magnitude problems can be expected.

After playing 35hours into the game I declared (quite boldly) the best game ever, I find myself exiting a door of no real importance and I find that I cannot turn either left or right!!! due to the autosave function in the game, it has saved the glitch on my save file and therefore my save game is wasted!!! I am so gutted... i just cant bring myself to go another 35+ hours through the same stuff...

  28. Casteron Unregistered 6 months ago

Bethesda should really issue a patch. I had the same pip boy brightness problem David talked about and it's freezing at least twice a day now. It's probably the best game I've ever played but this is getting irritating. PS3 gets no DLC packs now we have to deal with the fact that our system is too much for your game!?!?

  29. jowwe Unregistered 6 months ago

fallout 3 is fukked up it dont ave no ending after completiion and there is no giant behemouth at the end of da game ????????????

  30. Nik N. Unregistered 5 months ago

Basically about 85 percent of the things David talked about is what I'm experiencing now in Fallout 3. The other 15 I either haven't experienced yet or haven't progressed far enough in the game to experience. I purchased this game in mid May and got pretty far. But as I get farther, more problems continue to arise. I've had my PS3 since April of 2007 and before I got Fallout 3 my PS3 worked just fine. I even got a 320 GB hard drive for it with no problems. Now I have all kinds of graphical distortion, freezing and sound issues, and this is after the so called update they released that was supposed to remedy the problem. And it seems that this Fallout 3 data might have corrupted my hard drive because now I'm having issues with other games that I've owned prior to downloading Fallout 3 data, that I've never had with them before. Even downloaded demos are having this problem. I even got X-Men Origins Wolverine and that freezes on me every 5 minutes, with the same issues as Fallout. I have a buddy that got Fallout 3 and played it and never had a problem with it before the update. I think I'll just delete the game data and re-download it and see what happens. If that doesn't work then I'll have no choice but to wipe my ps3 clean and restore it to factory settings and start over from scratch

I have 65 hours of play where i was exploring when you first get out of the vault and now suddenly my fallout 3 just stops responding when i try to open doors or search bodies etc. Before this the 65 hours were fine really and now the whole PS3 crashes and has to be either hold the power button or just switch it straight off from the back.

  32. jaw Unregistered 4 months ago

i get the same as the person above me.

recently its just been randomly crashing and i can only switch it off by the back of my ps3 to fix it.

    anyone help?

  33. beef_loaf944 Unregistered 3 months ago

I've been playing this game on the PS3 for 3 days straight and it hasn't crashed, froze or locked up or anything. It's on the best games I've ever played.

  34. Jax Unregistered 3 months ago

Great game. I own it for PC and PS3. I have major crashing problems on both, but only when I am far into the game. My PS3 saves are now virtually unplayable as they lock up with several minutes of exploring.

The bright side is that now I have my life back! ;P.

This game is not worth i have had to many problems with it.i want my money back and i hate happy i was hopeing for a good game....but i guess i was to waste my time playing this game

  36. Jay Unregistered 1 month ago

The game itself is very enjoyable, but now that ive down loaded the long awaited ps3 dlc, ive gotten nothing but graphical errors which i have no idea how to fix. I turn on my pip boy light, and everything goes dark instead. I turn the light back off, and things get slightly less dark. Walls dissapearing into blackness, along with npcs. Wishing i didnt download the extra missions now =\ very dissapointed.

have to save every 10 mins just so i dont have to keep back tracking all the time... i mean what the hell???

bought my copy on Saturday and it crashes every 10 - 15 mins. it's absolutely ridiculous paying all that money for something that doesn't even work properly. Tried for half a hour to get onto the mother-ship but it kept freezing during the "probing" cut scene. This is a massive title, you'd think Bethesda would sort it out or at least make some sort of comment about it. That said it is one of the best games I've played, just wish i could play it properly.
