GameStop won't save Woolworths
No bid, says US retailer
MCV this week report on rumours which suggest GameStop could be considering a bid for ailing UK retail giant Woolworths. The chain has been in administration for over a week now, staff already laid-off and stock sold cheap as suits try to save the group.
Gaming giant GameStop won't be the firm to save this British institution, however, a statement from the company denying they have any designs upon Woolies.
"Claims originating from games industry publication MCV hold no merit and are completely inaccurate," offer GameSpot, in response to MCV's chit-chat.
Apparently, GameStop wanted a piece of the UK games market but failed in their bid to take-over GameStation (who ended up being owned by GAME), and are now considering Woolworths as another route to market. Or not, as the case may well be.
