Official word has today reached us that from October 10th the will have a new lower price of £79, whilst from October 17th Europeans will get Nintendo's box for €99. Retailers and consumers alike are sure to be enthused by the new bargain pricing, especially give the console's flagging fortunes of late - and at £79, significantly less than both major rivals, then this has to be a good deal.

All eyes will now be on to see if this cut and Sony's recent has any effect on Redmond's pricing, which isn't looking as outrageously competitive as it once did.

Back to Nintendo's announcement anyway, as David Gosen of Ninty comments: "There has never been a better time to get a GameCube and with this new price we want every household to have one. Our range of games has something for everyone and we know people love to play them. At the same time the has honoured these games with for innovation and excellent gameplay. If you are new to gaming or have been playing for years, then at this great price you simply can't afford not to have a GameCube."
