The console never made it into lounges as planned, the world's first broadband-only console failing to find the financial backing required to take on the mighty titans of the industry. But the company behind Phantom still exists, and in something of a shock move they today unveil their 'game store'.

Big name releases are delivered digitally via the new store, with 2, GTA IV, Assassin's Creed, 3 et al available on the new look service. While the games are downloadable now, Phantom promise a "streaming" option for 2009.

Presumably this option will negate the need for lengthy downloads prior to play; the original idea behind the PC-based Phantom console itself.

Whether this new store can compete with remains to be seen, but we'll keep you posted. In the meantime, the company are planning to deliver more of their lapboard controllers for PC systems.
