Funcom axe Conan servers
Server numbers slashed as trouble is rumoured
The MMO genre is competitive and unforgiving, as it would seem developers Funcom are finding out, the Scandinavian game makers announcing that they closing over half the servers supporting their Age of Conan online game.
Server operations will be cut from 49 down to just 18, which means that certain servers are going to get much more cluttered, as they are generally run on a regional basis.
The US and Australasia will now be served by just six servers, from a previous 24, while Europe will be cut to 12 having once boasted 25.
Funcom have already cut staff (before Christmas), and it appears that more belt tightening is in order as the firm battles to continue.
