Word on the street today, reported by Variety, has it that the license has reverted to Warner from EA.

The licensing deal was supposed to end in 2007, but was extended by to cover the release of the Lord of the Rings: Conquest last year. The deal, also penned by Enterprises, has now expired - and it will not be renewed, apparently.

EA also license the rights to from Warner, although their deal for that franchise doesn't expire until 2011. Meanwhile, speculation has it that Warner might look to release their own Lord of the Rings games.

Neither party have commented on this Hollywood gossip as yet.

    Maybe Warner could do a better job than EA... here's hoping eh??
