N-Gage for 1p?
The Sun undercuts all

The Register is today reporting on the latest and most drastic handset subsidising of the N-Gage yet. Whilst games retailers are already losing out to the mobile phone stores who carry the lowest price N-Gage's but require purchasers to sign-up to costly monthly contracts; now a new offer in The Sun newspaper is giving people the chance to bag an N-Gage on a contract for just 1p! This beats the pants off the best that O2 and T-Mobile can do through normal phone stores - they offer the handheld for £100.
Even the £100 offer is heavily subsidised and is less than half what games retailers charge for the mobile/gamedeck hybrid, and now The Sun is directing customers to this website where an N-Gage can be sought on a £28 per month Vodafone contract for just 1p. Which is sure to put the wind up games retail stores at the very least.
Despite the high monthly fee, £28 doesn't seem too bad against the SIM-free prices available; and you will of course need a SIM to make the device work anyhow - as some bemused commentators have pointed out.
More on this as we get it.
