According to Worldofwar.net, a site, the new being crafted by the developer will be an entirely new IP, and won't be based on Starcraft, Warcraft or Diablo.

Word on the status of the new MMO comes from community manager 'Zarhym', who was addressing questions from avid Warcraft fans.

Addressing the idea that Blizzard would have aired a new title by now, the manager replied: "Games take years to develop from concept to release. III was in the works for years before being announced. II was announced two years ago and isn’t even in yet.

He continued, clarifying matters further: "We have nothing to advertise for the new MMO because it's a shell of a game thus far. We've already stated it'll be a brand new franchise, which means the lore, art, and gameplay are being developed entirely from scratch. It's an overwhelming process, but a process through which we excel. Our track record supports this."

So, no World of Starcraft then. What could this be?

I am both left perplexed and amused by this move from Blizzard. First, I'm sure they would've made a killing had they stuck with a World of Diablo or Starcraft Universe type of game but instead they are trying to dip their toes on an somewhat new ocean. And secondly, why a new MMO? Won't that just eat up the millions of World of Warcraft accounts that are already subscribed to them? How they address that issue and the results of the former would really be interesting.
