Confirmed - Microsoft and Sky strike TV On Demand deal
Sky Player for Xbox 360 revealed today
At 11:30am today, Microsoft announced that in collaboration with Sky they will be bringing Sky Player to Xbox 360 this coming autumn.
We were in attendance where Sky Sports presenter Georgina Thompson kicked off the proceedings by making the initial announcement at St. Martin's Hotel in London.
Confirmation that the service will be made available to Xbox 360 owners follows rumours and speculations about an impending deal between the two companies, which we reported on yesterday.
The Sky Player will be accessed from the 360s NXE dashboard and will feature On Demand content that can be streamed via any broadband connection. The service will also make use of NXE avatars.
Live sports, news and other shows can also be viewed via the 360 Sky Player with the ability to pause, rewind and fast forward the broadcast at any time.
Pricing and specific details will be unveiled closer to the launch this autumn alongside details of the available packages and subscriptions.
We'll have a more detailed look at a demonstration we were shown of the service in action at the beginning of next week.
