Culturally 'British' games will get tax breaks
Movie-like system planned for games
A new Digital Britain report has proposed that UK-developed games must qualify as 'culturally British' in order to garner government tax breaks.
In the movie industry, where tax breaks are already in place, films need to rack up British points based on a system for determining their content.
It isn't clear how the report sees this cultural value being assessed in the real world, although UK developers are presumably just happy to see tax relief on the political agenda at all.
We'll bring you more on this soon. Thanks to Eurogamer.
