Former boss Stefan Eriksson has been jailed by a Swedish Court on an 18 month sentence for a catalogue of crimes which include "illegal threats, attempted blackmail, and robbery" according to the local SWEDEN'S NEWS IN ENGLISH.

Eriksson's lawyer Bjrn Sandin, said, "My immediate reaction is that this is unacceptable, but we must sit down and discuss how we should proceed."

Gamers will remember Eriksson as one of the men who gave the world the ill fated Gizmondo before crashing an illegally imported million-dollar Ferrari on the Pacific Coast highway California back in February 2006. Following the crash Eriksson was arrested on suspicion of embezzlement, grand theft auto, drunken driving, cocaine possession, and weapons charges although he later accepted a plea bargain in return for three years in prison and deportation.

The Gizmondo was a based handheld console intended as a serious rival to and Nintendo's offerings. However, it sold less than 25,000 units after its release in March 2005 and the company was forced into bankruptcy in late in 2005 when a Swedish newspaper revealed irregularities in its business dealings, and the criminal past of some members of management, including Eriksson.

    Nice.

I remember they bizarrely had a huge shop in the most expensive part of London (Regent's Street) just down from the Apple store. You couldn't make this stuff up.

Shame, a home-grown, British console would have been decent.
Too bad the foundations of the Gizmondo were, seemingly, very shakey !!
The launch was a big affair to my recollection. Had a few big name celebs who attended.
Oh well, there is always time...
