Pachter sees Wii in decline stateside
Sixth month of drops expected by exec
While both Sony and Microsoft have ushered in aggressive cost cutting as the PS3 and Xbox 360 face-off over the key pre-Christmas period, the Wii hasn't enjoyed a price cut as yet - which has resulted in declines in the console's sales, particularly in the USA.
Nintendo have steadfastly refused to cut the price, despite this intensifying competition, and Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter sees this as the primary reason why declines are likely to continue for a sixth month in September.
"With the core PS3 and Xbox 360 models priced only USD 50 higher than the Wii, we expect year-over-year sales of Wii hardware to continue their annual declines until the company either changes its bundle or lowers price," he told GI.biz.
"Wii unit sales are 50 percent below last year's level over the last five months, and we think that September sales will repeat the pattern."
