While both and have ushered in aggressive cost cutting as the and face-off over the key pre-Christmas period, the hasn't enjoyed a price cut as yet - which has resulted in declines in the console's sales, particularly in the USA.

Nintendo have steadfastly refused to cut the price, despite this intensifying competition, and Wedbush Morgan analyst sees this as the primary reason why declines are likely to continue for a sixth month in September.

"With the core PS3 and 360 models priced only USD 50 higher than the Wii, we expect year-over-year of Wii to continue their annual declines until the company either changes its bundle or lowers price," he told GI.biz.

"Wii unit sales are 50 percent below last year's level over the last five months, and we think that September sales will repeat the pattern."
