Hirai talks up community, PSP sales top 50 million
SCE exec delivers TGS keynote
Speaking in a TGS keynote address in Makuhari today, Sony PlayStation big wig Kaz Hirai has said that sales of the PSP console now stand at 52.9 million units worldwide.
The imminent release of the PSP Go is also expected to further drive sales of the handheld, while the device marks an important step into the realms of digital distribution for the hardware giant.
In his speech, Hirai spoke of the importance of the connected world - joining players together using games like LittleBigPlanet and SingStar.
"These networked communities are new experiences," said Hirai in his speech (thanks Kotaku). "This has made a new business model as well and this will help the game industry expand. The networked communities, that is Games are really the basis, the core, and can be combined with networks to increase the fun.
"The question is what do we need to develop? We have to open our eyes and be sensitive to what users want."
Apparently, LittleBigPlanet now boasts 2 million user-created stages - Hirai noting that it would take a person six hours a day for 29 years to take in all these creations.
