Major Nelson confirmed yesterday that this November's winter dashboard update for the will lock-out third-party memory card units - a move peripheral maker Datel has described as 'disappointing'.

"We are following this issue and awaiting the outcome like everyone else," a Datel representative told CVG.

"If the blog is to be taken at face value then we're disappointed to see that are taking these steps to prevent customers from exercising their freedom of choice.

"Everyone is looking for ways to make their cash go further at the moment and we believe that Max Memory offers a good value, high capacity, alternative to the official Memory Unit."

What are your thoughts on this, players?

This is total BS by Microsoft. There is no legitimate reason to block these cards. The offer no additional ability to pirate games, or boost GamerScore. These things are done without the Datel Max Memory. A lot of customers who walked into Best Buy and bought this better value, better quality Memory Unit have no idea that their game saves are about to be lost forever. I have written a petition stating these and many more reasons why Micro$oft should remove this "Feature" from the update. Please read and share with who you know.

I have recently purchased the expandable 2GB memory unit provided by Datel, in attempts to copy over my gamertag save game info to a new, larger 360 HDD - of which should have came with a data transfer cable in the first place, but of course being an MS product, would be completely suprising if they did. In my 30 years of existence, Microsoft has ONCE AGAIN opted to make things increasingly difficult for both consumers and third party businesses alike in dealing with their products. MS definately has the wrong opinion of the public, we are NOT BLIND, do not try to make it look as though you are battling piracy, suck it up and be honest up front, another money grab. 360 is being sold this week, ill be grabbing a PS3. Im sure im not the first, and far from the last.
