Valve are of course responsible for hit titles like and Counter-Strike, but the real appeal may lie in their platform - the service widely regarded as one of the PC's most important digital delivery services.

According to Eurogamer, ZeniMax still have acquisition money burning a hole in their pockets, the publisher having looked at other major developers and smaller publishers in recent months.

In more spurious gossip, firms as diverse as Microsoft, and even have also been linked with - owing to the ever-increasing clout of Steam. More soon.
