EA unruffled by industry price wars
Publisher won't be detracted by rivals
Harvey Elliot, VP and GM a EA Casual, was the keynote speaker at yesterday's Casual Games Forum at the Cumberland Hotel in London. In his session, opening the days events, Elliot acknowledged the possible threat of pricing wars but not as a long-term concern.
Elliot spoke to his beliefs that there is always going to be a market for paid games. As quoted by CasualGaming, Elliot said, "There are certain games for certain markets, and sometimes free games will feel and fit right, but the same is true for low-priced games and retail games and all kinds of pricing structures. There will always be a place for paid-for games of all price ranges."
Though Elliot noted that one of EA's own games, FIFA 10, was recently involved in a pricing war itself, he seemed to stand firm that formats like the IPhone would not undermine the industry.
More soon.
