Wii catching PS3 in Japan - Iwata
Exec sees Wii back on the front foot
The Wii has been behind in the Japanese weekly hardware sales ever since Sony launched the PS3 Slim and cut the price of their console, but Nintendo president Satoru Iwata says that the Wii is now matching the PS3.
"A notable dip can be seen in sales of Wii this year; which is approximately half the size of last year. On the other hand, Sony's PS3 showed a good transition and they increased the unit sales by about 50 percent," Iwata-san is reported by GoNintendo as revealing.
"Although we held more than a 60% hardware market share through last year - Wii has 42 percent and PS3 40 percent share thus far this year - so both machines are neck and neck in Japan."
Iwata does of course credit the recent Wii price cut with this upturn in business.
