MS bans one million Xbox Live users
They got served
Citing violations of the company's terms of use, Microsoft has banned approximately 1 million Xbox Live users from the service for using modified consoles to play pirated games.
The sweeping ban follows from Microsoft's pledge to disqualify anyone who uses a modded Xbox 360 from accessing Xbox Live. Previous action has resulted in swathes of gamers banned, but this is among the largest bans undertaken yet.
Originally reported by InformationWeek, the ban is likely tied to the release of Modern Warfare 2 which has seen record-breaking sales - and huge interest in pirated copies.
With more than 20 million registered Xbox Live users, this constitutes a whopping 5 percent elimination of the total community. The lesson: you gotta pay if you wanna play.
