One of the US Capital's most famous museums is about to get a new exhibition dedicated to videogames - the art of games, specifically - although it won't launch until 2012.

The Smithsonian American Art Museum will celebrate 'four decades' of games through their related art, and it will "show the of visual effects and aesthetics".

Called the 'Art of Video Games', this move shows the Washington DC institution heading in a highly topical direction, although we do have a two year wait on our hands.

More on this exhibition as we get it, in the meantime. Thanks Joystiq.
