Final Fantasy XIII has only been available in for just shy of two days, but the game has already shifted an astounding 1 million copies on its first day.

Word of this gigantic debut comes from Kotaku, who quotes day one of between 1 and 1.1 million copies.

Square Enix will no doubt be pleased that the latest episode in their long-running series is off to a good start, but this is arguably bigger news for - given the exclusivity the title has in Japan.

Apparently, two million copies have been shipped to stores across Japan, while these initial figures don't include sales of the special Lightning Edition.
