EA to use more DLC incentives
EA using DLC to steer gamers away from piracy
EA have been actively pursuing using DLC to curb both games piracy and the pre-owned market.
They have already been rewarding gamers for buying a brand new copy of titles like Dragon Age, Saboteur and Mass Effect 2 and CEO John Riccitiello told EA investors that it has already been successful.
In an investor conference call reported by G4, EA's CEO said: "In every case, what we've seen is a very positive response from the consumer and each case, particularly starting with Dragon Age, a strong pick-up in revenue per user."
Riccitiello added: "By and large, they like the extra content and we think it's a strong positive move. We have similar strong PDLC [paid downloadable content] with each and every one of our titles this year."
We can expect more downloadable content similar to Mass Effect 2's Cerberus Network, which gives those who purchased a new copy access to exclusive DLC, with all of EA's released this year.
