Microsoft ditches Psychonauts
Schafer's opus loses support

Microsoft chopped another new release of the schedule yesterday, with the news that they've cancelled support of Double Fine's forthcoming platformer Psychonauts, which the firm was due to publish and distribute. "Microsoft Game Studios has made the decision to end its publishing agreement with Double Fine for the upcoming Xbox game Psychonauts," read a terse statement confirming the resolution.
Despite this apparent vote of no confidence, Microsoft also made the bizarre admission that they "believes in the vision of the title and would like to see the game on Xbox", and as such are actively assisting Double Fine in their search for a new publisher. I wonder why they dropped it in the first place, then?
Microsoft's cancellation seems increasingly bizarre when you consider the growing interest this original title had been receiving, based mainly upon its quirky and original visuals, and unusual gameplay which features a young spy capable of invading other characters minds.
What's more, the title is being designed by former LucasArts veteran Tim Schafer the mastermind behind seminal titles Full Throttle and Grim Fandango. More as we get it.
