You may have read reports which surfaced earlier this week suggesting that may be planning on embracing wireless technology far more than originally estimated with their new handheld. Reports which had it that the forthcoming Sony Playstation portable would not only use wireless technology to connect with other PSP's locally for gaming, but also with the forthcoming Playstation 3 - embracing all kinds of possibilities in the process.

Sony's plan was apparently to utilise the 802.11 wireless standard, for downloading games and other media, and for playing via the plethora of wireless 'hotspots' popping-up globally all the time. So PSP's would not only be linked for multiplayer gaming under the 'PSP Network', but would also be able to trade data with their broadband-connected consoles back home in the living room too, as well as other online resources. A mouth-watering prospect, but one cast into doubt by Sony's bizarre admission that the whisperings (commenced by Gamesindustry.biz) did derive from a previous Sony meeting, but do "not represent official Sony Computer Entertainment policy." Hopefully we'll have some clarification of what their 'policy' is soon, then.
