Whilst rumours of purchasing Bioware haven't quite burnt-out yet, reports from within the veteran developer do downplay the speculation somewhat, one insider at the firm reportedly telling GameSpot "to us, it's really thin air," whilst refusing to comment further in any detail on the gossip. Indeed, if as GameSpot report their source did refuse to completely rule-out a Microsoft purchase, then this chatter looks like it could continue to run, the source also stating "we value Microsoft as a publishing partner."

Unsurprisingly, Microsoft has refused to be drawn on the rumours, though it wouldn't be surprising in the least if Microsoft were at least attempting to purchase Bioware from the illustrious company's founders, having already acquired Bungie, FASA and most notably for impressive sums in the past. Hopefully we'll get a concrete confirmation or denial of this soon, so we can at least put the idle speculation to bed. For our part however the Bioware insider's quote certainly seems to discourage thoughts of a take-over, whilst not wishing to be drawn into the debate further, and it may be that anything more is just hot air. As ever, regard anything less than official with suspicion.

Nothing can last forever. Not even something as great as PC-Games from Bioware.

I have survived one "dark age" in where PC-RPG´s are called dead (until Baldurs Gate let them come back to live). I´ll survive another.

Who can be sure that there'll be another Black Isle five years down the road, just waiting to pick up the genre and save it from death again? I just hope this all runs out of steam :(

All I can say is, if Microsoft did buy out Bioware, we would probably lose the one thing Bioware is actually good at, which is making good games for Linux.

If its true, then what a deal for microsoft. But those who own a computer will suffer without the games Bioware once delivered us.
