E3 2004: PS2 price dropped Stateside
Grand surprise?

As suggested in the run-up to E3 by every industry analyst worth their salt, Sony has confirmed in their pre-E3 conference that the price of the PS2 has been cut to $149 in the USA, making the console level on price with the Xbox, which had been stealing ahead in recent sales.
"The health of the console market depends on us," COO Kaz Hirai told attendees at Sony's conference before waxing lyrical on the platform's strength, rubbishing the competition with word that the PS2 will ship more units this year than "competitors' consoles in their entire life cycle."
Sony also stated that they would back the new price drop with a vigorous marketing campaign.
