Word from trade mag MCV informs us of the tantalising prospect of the and the launching during the same week in Europe, creating a fascinating face-off which will no doubt be a compelling tussle for the neutral onlooker. Apparently, both major firms have the week ending Friday, March the 18th, 2005 in their diaries for new handheld launches, with the proceeding Easter weekend being a traditionally busy spell in the games industry.

No official information is available concerning this conjecture, with pricing also unknown at this juncture, reports suggesting the DS at somewhere between 149-199 Euros, whilst the PSP could be about 300-375 Euros. Of course, if this launch information proves correct then the week in question could be crucial for both devices - despite claims that they are not direct competitors - and if such a situation occurs then marketing, pricing and every other nuance of the debut will be of extra importance.

More soon.

The DS is a mini Nintendo 64, and the PSP is a mini PS2.WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE!

  8. fixer Unregistered 5 years ago

The DS could cost $199.99 and the PSP could cost $249.99.

Logan, the PSP is like a mini-PS2, and the DS is completely NEW!!! It's not like a mini-N64 at all! Read my lips: THE PSP WILL CRASH AND BURN! It's also a waste of money! 300 smackers for that mini-PS2? You might as well just pay $149 for a regular PS2. And the PSP's battery life sucks. They have time to fix that, but still...it'll be tough. Sony made a handheld only because their PS2 was getting the **** kicked out of it by the GBA. I know the DS will succeed. I heard Sony made a handheld once and it failed. Plus, they have next to no experiance with handhelds! I'd go with the DS anyday. The PSP is just an overpriced multimedia device disguised as a "gaming system."

ok. i have a sony p800, it is the best handheld device ever. ( except for when the psp and ds come out) it really shows sonys quality and im sure the psp will do the same. ive always disliked ps2's. i have a GC and and an Xbox, no PS2 but the psp has u much more appealing look and better features. PSP will beat DS
