In news that will do no harm whatsoever to the prospects of Sony's upcoming entry into the handheld market the Gran Turismo that appears on the PSP will be the same game that is imminent for the PS2. Series producer Kazunori Yamauchi revealed in an interview on Sony's official PlayStation website that he intends to keep the same amount of content in the PSP version as the PS2 Gran Turismo 4.

"The PSP is a portable game machine, and people may think it's oriented towards playing simple games, but it really has the same hardware performance as the PS2," comments Yamauchi in the interview. "Since we're already developing the GT4's system on the PS2 hardware, we're planning to port that directly to the PSP." Yamauchi broadened the discussion to PSP games in general. "There's basically two ways of making games for the PSP. One way is to develop an original new game, which in general will be limited in its content since the price of PSP games aren't going to be too high, meaning the game's development budget will also be limited. We're going to be taking the second method, which is to take a system from a major title, and effectively sliding it onto the PSP hardware," he said.
Gran Turismo 4 is apparently around 75% complete and still on course for a release by years end, but it is looking unlikely that Gran Turismo will be a PSP release game.

"75% complete" usually means "1 year to go"...

    Indeed - not very convincing

The PSP video is completely non-impressive. Its just a pre-rendered movie dumped onto the PSP screen like a DVD player. The console is not rendering those imagines in real time! Its not even the actual game where people really play the game. Then, they follow that by some cheesy game with unimpressive gameboy catoon animation. I don't think this PSP is anywhere near as powerful as they are claiming.

Wheres your proof its pre-rendered Mr. Annoyingmouse? Look, youre partially right, thats the REPLAY mode on GT4. And it looks brill for a hand held. Anyway, the fact the PSP can even play that type of footage proves its pretty cool. And dont ever say A Sony product has Gameboy graphics! OK! Only kids play rubbishy cartoon games.

    what a load of rubbish

The thing it's just the same GT4 is unimpresive. I'm sure DS will be far better then PSP. Ofcourse PSP won't have GB graphics, but who said GBA is kidish? Nintendo might make only E games, but E stands for everyone, not kids. I've seen a lot of adults playing Advance Wars, that doesn't really look very good. PSP is sleeky , powerful, but with no good games, it's nothing. I don't think that you are a real gamer, Crispy, as you judge the games only by looks.

WTF are you talking about! That video is old and is not using the capabilities of the PSP. That video was made before E3. PSP is way more powerful than that crap!!! :-p

  8. mr y Unregistered 4 years ago

The video looks bad becouse of tape, it looks like it is a home video cam. But do you really belive PSP is as powerful as PS2? I don't. As you can see from the artical, there won't be a lot of original games, so why would you like to by them? Sony made 2 mistakes: PSP is meant for adults, there not a lot of adults who play games today; and now they say there won't be a lot of original games, which means it's for adults who like video games and don't have PS2.

"there not a lot of adults who play games today"
    ==>
actually more adults play games than kids, that's why nintendo is less and less popular (by always making kiddie games) and why sony and microsoft are beating the gamecube

i read on a study that us gamers are 27 years old average and european are 22...

gamers, like the population, are getting older and older, games were considered as toys before, but not anymore

Mr Y, i and many gamers say that the GBA has kiddie games. Also, i said that the graphics on the the game were good, not the game is good just because it has good graphics. Soz.

Fixer/fixer, we must unite and destroy those biast game boy freaks in the "Sony PSP vs NIntendo DS" Forum! Come quick! As the quy on the other end of the phone in the the "Incredibles" trailer says, "I need your help!"

The thing is that kids want to be cool, you can say they want to be like adults. PS2 is not bought by adults a lot, they usually don't have a lot of time, as they have to work. And then, a lot of adults would prefer Nintendo, as they remember Mario and some other games. Whatever you say, Nintendo is classic.

The PSP is going to be 860g and they're making a necklace attachment for it. It's not practical at all, because of it's weight and it's design. It's main competition is the Nintendo DS and that looks and feels much better. It's clam shell design will protect it from travel damage where as the PSP will drain more money out of your pocket by inroducing a carry case. The mini disks that sony are using for films on the PSP are in their words are "the next big thing", which is funny seeing how there is only one film lined up for them (Final Fantasy) and isn't that what Gamecube said? Don't get me wrong, the PSP has got a bigger game variety, but thats the only thing i can think of that betters the DS.Sony shouldn't have tried to muscle in on Nintendo's field.

All those not impressed by the PSP graphics:

I program the playstation 2, It is a high power machine not to be underestemated. If Sony manage to get anything like the power of PS2 into a hand held device (and due to the released specs they have) then the PSP is a substantial achievement. Also it is aiming for a different market then GBA/DS. Yes i am sure some adults do play gba games, but i bought a GBA and thought all the games for it were absolutely crap. I would buy GT for PSP just because it would be great fun. BRING ON PSP!

i cant believe how stupid some of you are. the psp destroys the specs of the nintendo ds. better graphics, more capabilities, better design. it even weighs less. as far as games being for kids...do you have any clue what youre talking about? maybe once you graduate from middle school your lack of logic and reason will improve. the psp is going to revolutionize gaming.

  16. nelly nel Unregistered 4 years ago

i like the psp better . it looks better has better games and more graphics do get me wrong i love the ds , igot one and mario ds is hot aspecilly the mini game.but bobdigital is right sony is gonna revolutionize hand held . i think the ds fan are just made because nintendo is getting played out !!!

lol, well its out, i noticed none of the fly boys have remarked on the fact PSP, does indeed have ps2 power

trust me, i own a psp and a ps2, so i can compare

only this is, psp is running lower rez, not that it matters on a screen that small

  24. anonymous Unregistered 3 months ago

and that was 4 years ago... And still not a sign of GT4 portable...
