It may have begun almost a week later than originally hoped - but the preload of 2 via the content delivery system has now begun, with users of the package receiving the download option as of late yesterday. Reports had originally suggested that the preload of content might begin on Monday. Of course, the ability to preload the game doesn't quite mean the same thing as being able to play it - for that long-awaited pleasure you'll have to wait until late September, the predicted debut.

At the time of going to press many users were reporting an inability to connect to Steam's servers and begin the preload, so it's just as well that with more than a month until launch have plenty of time to ensure everyone gets a fair crack at a download, and that delivery-related creases can be ironed out in good time.

Valve has previously waxed lyrical on the scalability of the Steam platform, and it is confident their system can handle such a massive launch, with the option to expand bandwidth available at any time. We'll keep you posted.
