New Source licensing
Half-Life 2 tech proving popular
The bizarrely named Smiling Gator Productions have revealed that they are licensing the Source engine from Half-Life 2 developers Valve, with the intention of utilising its graphical powers in upcoming MMORPG Twilight War: After The Fall. Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is already utilising this much lauded technology, as is a forthcoming title from Arkane Studios, which has yet to be announced.
"The Source engine is one of the gaming world's premier technologies, we are thrilled about the features it will bring to Twilight War: After the Fall," enthused Gator chief Kingsley Montgomery. "Its combat system, physics, and advanced AI are exactly what we were looking for to enable the exciting features we are developing for our game. We evaluated several game engines and concluded that Valve's was the only choice for us. In addition to being a top-notch product, their support has been excellent."
The new MMORPG in question is due out in 2006. More as we get it.
