Toshiba and NEC's eagerness to persuade to adopt the HD-DVD standard they promote is understandable, especially after Sony's confirmation that the will utilise the rival standard. The HD-DVD association want their standard to feature in the next Xbox, and clearly think Sony's positioning could do their own cause some good if MS can be polarised in their favour.

If the next were to adopt the fledgling format, the association claims "mass production, which will lead to a stable price from an early stage" will be achieved. is a member of the Blu-ray Disc Founders association; and it is interesting to witness companies acting as political pawns in the battle for electronics supremacy. Whether Blue-ray or HD-DVD triumphs remains to be seen - or indeed whether Redmond will give their pitch any credence.

Man this is stupid....i plan on getting an xbox2, and i hope MS go with blu-ray...HD DVD sucks hard, it's all about blu-ray.

I want to be playing halo 3 on a blu-ray disc., i hate to admit it, but in my view sony took the right decision by making PS3 blu-ray conpatible, and i hope MS follows the same route.

Why does HDDVD suck hard? Is there really any difference between the two? All I can see is it becoming very awkward for the consumer if two rival standards go mainstream.

    25GB Blu-Ray compare to 15GB HD-DVD
    50+GB Dual-Layer BD to Toshiba's 30GB DL.......Doesn't take a smart person to know Blu-Ray Holds WAY MORE THAT HD-DVD......
Oh did I mension DVD protection so it won't get scratched!

not sure how hddvd sucks hard since a game doesnt take that much space right now. I believe hddvd will win out in the end and hope ms includes it in xbox next. That would be the nail in sonys coffin

YOUR ALL IGNORANT ... HD-DVD MUST BECOME THE STANDARD BECAUSE IF BLUE RAY BECOMES STANDARD AND SINCE IT COST MORE TO PRODUCE A BLU-RAY DISC THAT MEANS GAMES WILL BE RIDICULOUSLY PRICED I DON'T WANNA BE PAYING $150+ JUST FOR ONE GAME. HD-DVD WILL COST THE SAME TO PRODUCE JUST LIKE STANDARD DVD'S. DVD FORUM IS LOOKING OUT OUR FOR THE CONSUMER.

Hey, wake up now! Whoever supports Blu-Ray is working against his own interests. SONY is kinda evil - higher prices, compatibility problems, ridiculous copy protections.....

Don't get fooled, HD-DVD is a more 'open' standard - there is much more capacity possible in the future - not so easy with Blu-Ray.

Honestly, there is not 1 argument to support Blu-Ray.

HD-DVD kind of sucks but blue ray sucks major style.
I was waiting to get a PS3, but with the ridiculous high protection in blue ray and the expense of the equipment, they can go sc*ew themselves. I'm gonna get a xbox 360 now.

No chance I will ever buy a player that doesnt support multi region as the BBFC in the UK sucks. They are always cutting my favourite films.

Infact I say balls to HD-DVD and Blue ray, im sticking with DVD and saving myself a load of money.

PS3 is overpriced and i'm sick of waiting, plus HD sucks.
