N-Gage redesigned (again)
Nokia keep trying...
Nokia has spoken for the first time today about a planned redesign of the ailing N-Gage mobile phone / games console hybrid. The last iteration, dubbed the QD, was certainly an improvement over the cumbersome original, but failed to sell in great numbers still. "We're looking at new colors, a new look and feel for the QD in the next few months," revealed Gerard Wiener, director and general manager of Nokia's games division. Improvements in audio and video quality are also on the drawing board for future versions, and use of CDMA wireless networks is also being considered.
CDMA is a network standard competing with GSM, with the latest iteration expected to offer speeds faster than CDMA too (the technology is big in parts of the United States and Asia). Nokia are also talking of a price cut stateside in order to boost sales. Wiener also commented that an up-turn is expected soon, with greater exposure.. and early sales in China also look promising. Whether this will be enough with the rise of the PSP and DS remains to be seen. More soon.Related

my question is: why?
DS and PSP are out, Nokia shouldn't waste their money
oh and gizmodo, but.........
Nio matter how hard they try to improve the N-Gage it will be a waste of their time since the Nintendo DS and PSP are already dominating the handheld market. Nokia should head back to supporting cellphones instead and not waste big money supporting a three-year old handheld with only a library of over seventy games.
N-Gage was an impressive handy machine (even said by Nintendo itself), but then came to light the DS and PSP, wich meant the fall of Nokia in handheld gaming. Surely it's not the time for a new N-Gage redesign (unless it comes with a very-very-very low price).
N-Gage is able to become into something powerful someday (just better than Sony's handheld), but meanwhile--while improves in graphics, design and price--must be kept in the dark.
