Quake IV to shakedown QuakeCon
First sighting scheduled
Speaking during a gathering to celebrate the release of DOOM 3 on the Xbox, id Software's CEO Todd Hollenshead let slip a few titbits of information. Firstly Todd was hinting at the distinct possibility that the imminent PC expansion for DOOM 3, Resurrection of Evil, will also make it to the Xbox. He said, "it's certainly something we're considering. The core engine is already running on the Xbox, but we are also working on a new IP right now for the PC. I bring that up because, while other id games have appeared on various consoles over the year, the Xbox conversion we did of Doom 3 was the most involved we've ever been in the conversion process. Also, since Nerve Software did the expansion pack, we would potentially be working with a different team."
Concerning the new IP id is working on, Mr Hollenshead would be drawn no further than confirming that, shockingly, it's going to be a first-person shooter. "That's what we do best, so yes, I'll confirm that."
Finally, he also revealed that Quake IV will make its debut showing at the annual QuakCon extravaganza. Held every year in Dallas, and running from August 11th to 14th this year, attendees will be able to sample the multiplayer aspect of the game and finally get a look at this eagerly awaited and insanely guarded title. Nice.
