Revolution begins mid-2006
With memory, we can reveal
Memory firm CEO Mark Voll has inadvertently revealed when the new Nintendo 'Revolution' console will be out, letting slip that the system will be out in mid-2006 during a conference call. Voll's firm, Monolithic Systems Technology, will be providing the embedded memory for the platform, we're led to believe.
"During the quarter, we announced that NEC Electronics will now use our 1T-SRAM embedded memory technologies on their advanced 90nm process, and that the initial designs to be incorporated in SoCs will be used in Nintendo's next-generation game console, code-named Revolution. We are excited to be a participating member of the Nintendo team once again as Nintendo will roll out its successor game console to the GameCube in mid-2006," Voll told investors.
Previously, Nintendo had been quiet on a release date for the system, merely confirming its existence. More on the console may be offered at E3 next week. Fingers crossed.
