Factor 5, an independent Californian developer previously responsible for a couple of Rogue Squadron games, has switched allegiances in dramatic style this week, having previously backed the 360. Factor 5 were one of the first studios to demonstrate the potential of Microsoft's XNA platform (a system for making and Xbox development easy), but switched exclusively to Sony's new beast when its power was revealed. The is certainly very strong, but technically the is more so, and Factor 5 claim it is for these reasons they switched.

"I was shocked by how powerful the new consoles are," said Julian Eggebrecht, president of Factor 5. "They should really free our development." Apparently, the greater processing power of Sony's much-hyped new CPU 'the Cell', will allow Factor 5 to better simulate the real world making for more realistic games. We've no word on the nature of Factor 5's next-gen products, but the company in the past has created middleware as well as new games. We'll keep you posted on this.

Screw the next-gen consoles. I want to see a new 2D "Turrican" from Factor 5 on the DS and/or PSP.

Actually, on second thought, a 3D version of Factor 5's "Denaris" for next-gen consoles would be nice.

Sounds like an stupid move. Developers should target the popular platforms. Not the technically best ones.

Then i guess it was a pretty smart move, since the XBox only holds a tiny fraction of the market share that the Playstation has. Sony currently dominates the console market. So i guess i could say that sounds like a stupid comment.

Maybe we should all do what's popular instead of what's better, right? Like jump off bridges because everyone else is?

    Idiot.

Market share on a year-to-date basis for Xbox increased from 24 percent in 2003 to 37 percent in 2004. During the same time, PS2 share dropped from 51 percent to 45 percent.

Thanks for proving my point. Glad you were here to drop the numbers that SAY EXACTLY WHAT I JUST SAID. Sony holds the higher ground. Xbox holds the lower. Sony = more popular. XBox = less popular. Thanks again!

    Idiot.

That's funny. If I have $ to only buy 1. It would be PS3.
