Although Play.com's tentative listing of the is based more on conjecture no doubt than fact, they've been selling gaming products long enough to take an educated guess, which is why their £399 price point (nearly $800 US) is likely to have many gamers and commentators worried. As well as the pre-order price, the site also lists November 29th as the release date, though once again are describing these assertions as pie-in-the-sky.

"The stories currently running on some sites regarding 360 launch price, launch timings and launch line up are pure speculation," a statement from Microsoft assured. "We have not yet announced any specific launch details."

This response prompted a slight amendment from Play.com, who qualify their pre-order page with "The price and release date have not been confirmed and are subject to change," reassuring "If the retail price is decreased you will receive the lower price." A few games are also listed, 2, Project Gotham 360 and 4, all of which carry a £39.99 price, which reportedly gives £10 off the RRP. Again, this is no doubt conjecture, but many were expecting price hikes of this calibre with the next-generation of games. More on all this soon, but lets hope Play.com have been over-zealous with their fee on this occasion.
