NVIDIA earn from Xbox 360 back-compatibility
So that's how it works...
When Microsoft announced the specifications of the Xbox 360, most believed the technical overhaul would be the death of backwards compatibility, Redmond having switched Intel for IBM on the CPU front, NVIDIA for ATI on the graphics side. However, the company did tentatively offer compatibility with older Xbox games when fully unveiling the system - albeit in a vague manner suggesting it might be limited to particular titles. Speculation had it that this would basically mean Xbox favourites being rewritten for release on the Xbox 360, but it seems a somewhat better solution may have been found.
Despite a legal row over royalties concerning the original Xbox, and Microsoft's displeasure at the amount paid to NVIDIA (resulting in ATI's successful usurpation with the 360), it turns out Microsoft will still pay NVIDIA certainly royalties for the 360 too (a sum for every unit sold, it is believed) - in order to make emulation software mimicking NVIDIA's hardware run on ATI's. This, along with game patches that will be present on the Xbox 360 hard drive from launch day, should make the Xbox 360 backwards compatible. Not an elegant solution perhaps, but one that should make consumers lives easier, which is, after all, the most important thing.Although it is still not clear if all titles will work on the new system, this approach does mean that patches for initially overlooked titles could be added at a later date. The Xbox 360 is expected out this November costing in the region of $300. More as we get it.

Wow, I knew they were going to be having an emulator for Xbox on the 360 (seemed like the only logical way to do it, and it explains the 'with the best selling Xbox titles' and various other comments), but I never Imagined they'd strike another deal with NVIDIA to get it.
lol MS lol
Well, I can imagine that this will spawn countless "revised editions" of games. The 360 seeming more like an actual console than a PC knock off, there's probably a lot of license switching that we're not hearing about.
Isn't clear, that inspite of all their efforts Microsoft don't really have the clout to fight against PS2 and sony when it comes to consumer choice. Microsoft and Xbox have probably spent twice as much on advertising there products as compared to playstaion 2 and still when it comes to end user satisfaction there is no contest PS2 is by far and away the preferred console of all game lovers.
Prove below of Exclusive titles:
Metal Gear Solid or Halo
Gotham Racing or Grand Turismo 4
F1 Racing or Forza Racing
I know its only a simple opion but Ps2 wins all the time.

Firstly, there's no point in comparing the titles you've chosen. For starters MGS is available on Xbox and is a stealth game whereas Halo is an FPS. Both consoles have their own exclusives that are enjoyable.
Secondly I prefer all the Xbox games you mentioned over the PS2 games and that is my personal preference.
If you're being serious you and your fellow fanboys should get a life and stop bickering.
Well as a first time gamer on any xbox i just got the 360 and I'm very impressed with the graphics especially on high definition but it is a pain having to buy a patch to play original xbox games on the damn thing and having to pay for the privilage to boot. I mean how much do these consoles cost? Bit of a bloody cheek if you want to know the truth especially as it was already supposed to be compatible MMM! Other than that the 360 is cool
