Excessive Gamer dies

A 24 year old jobless South Korean man has been found dead after a marathon-and-a-half 86 hour gaming session in an internet cafe. The man is said to have collapsed due to lack of sleep and food, and then upon regaining consciousness visited the toilet. He was found dead a short time later.
Police in the town of Oh Myong-sik in Kwangju said that suspicious circumstances had been ruled out, and that an autopsy was planned.
Gamers are persistently warned of the dangers of excessive gameplay, indeed most games carry health warnings with regard to this. The popularity of MMORPGs, where the game is played as practically a virtual life, can only lead to more incidents like this.

Well come on this wasent entirely his fault.. 86 hours? whay wasent the establishment looking or watching this? i mean 86 hours didnt they think somehting was wrong?????
Sounds like he had serious issues. NO person goes 86 hours in a game/LAN without eating or doing the necessary things. This just goes to show that we as a society need to keep things balance and not focus only on gaming. Yes Games are fun but you have to step out of the virtual spot and get a real life.

I also agree the owners/staff of the cafè should have done something to stop him. A death wouldn't be very good for the rep of that cafè, nor would they want anyone to suffer from playing there.
A sad story, and a story that once again will give gaming a worse reputation among the mainstream media and 'adult' groups of society.
But let's not have that overshadow the main thing in this, a casualty. Rest in peace.
How does someone become so involved in a game they can sit for 86 hours like that? I mean, damn, you'd think he'd have to get up to at least pee, ya know? Ja, it's pretty sad, but it's Darwin at work, people who are too stupid to live, die, it's the sad truth...

Wow. When I first read this, my heart skipped a beat. How terribly sad and also, how symbolic of our generation. Don't harden your hearts and laugh about it. I for one saw a little bit of myself when I read this. He must have been terribly depressed in general. Not only is the Internet cafe partially at fault here, but where was his family? If I were to disappear for over 3 days, I should hope someone would come looking for me, and I am definitely grateful for that. I don't think I am going to play any computer games for a while. Anybody who reads this, please say a prayer for our departed brother, and don't get angry at the rude comments from others.

to me this guy was a true gamer my friends and i try and go for 24 hours and its hard to do 86 hours is amazing he is a true gamer to me he is a legend never to be forgoten by any gamer hes the #1 gamer in the world rip

But it wasn't the game that killed him, the lack of food and water. I think he probably intended to kill himself by doing this in the first place. He must also have been on something, no one can stay awake for 3 days much less constantly play a game during that time.

he was a nut the only game i have played excessively is Counter-Strike:Source and that was for 8 hours.

you can die from staying awake for more than 36 hours. sleep the the human bodys way of sorting itself out producing different chemicals while you sleep without these chemicals being devolped you can suffer from DVT, IF,swolen brain, swolen blood vessels, internal deyhdration, internal bleeding etc.
