A new market research report from DFC Intelligence, raises a number of interesting predictions about the upcoming next-generation console war, and the report won't make pleasant reading for Sony execs, who are still eager to brush off Microsoft's challenge to their industry domination. DFC state in their market report that they believe Sony can only hope for a maximum 50% share with the PS3 - something of a slide compared to the PS2's 70% share.

The report makes for optimistic reading for Microsoft and Nintendo however, both of whom have the opportunity for a greater stake - research suggests. Currently, both platform holders have about a 15% share of the audience, however, Microsoft can hope to grab as much as a 40% share with the Xbox 360. Nintendo can also get a maximum 35%, if they play their cards right. DFC's report also predicts strong industry growth, with gaming expected to be worth $41.49 billion by 2009. $9.8 billion of this is expected to come from online gaming, too. More on all these topics soon.
