With the lead the has stolen over its rival next-generation consoles, are expecting to build-up an installed userbase very quickly, corporate vice president stated at the Games summit that the 360 is expected to reach ten-million units 'very quickly'. Moore also stated that he couldn't judge the in-roads the 360 would make before the launch of the PS3, because he didn't know what Sony's definition of 'Spring' was; the tentative period scheduled for the arrival of Sony's new system. "I'm not in any way saying that he who gets to 10 million first wins," he explained, "but that's a target that we in Redmond believe that we can get to very quickly." Moore believes that historically machines hitting ten-million first have the greatest chance of dominance.

Moore optimistically predicted 'unrestrained' demand for the Xbox 360, stating that delivering the required number of consoles would be the biggest issue within the initial twelve to sixteen months. Moore told the Summit he believes the installed userbase of all consoles will grow with the next-generation, and that HDTV will be a key factor in reaching new audiences. He stated that the Xbox 360 will also support VGA-output, offering HDTV-like visuals on monitors and similar, less pricey devices.

Finally, he assured the audience that the Xbox 360 would not become the new Dreamcast, which flopped despite launching ahead of the PS2. 'Mistakes would not be repeated', he assured, mooting Microsoft's far more advantageous position compared to Sega's. More on all this soon.
